When I was processing this photo and discovered the name of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel on the building, I started to wonder why an English admiral, politician and pirate was honoured in San Francisco. I read up on it and was reminded that Drake circumnavigated the world and spent time exploring the Pacific and had landed in what is now California. So much fun processing old photos :-)
